Organising Workers of a Glove Manufacturing factory in Taiping

Workers of the World Unite!!!!!!!!!.
In conjunction with Labour Day (1st May 2011),
We decided to organise workers of a rubber glove manufacturing
company in kamunting, Taiping. This year the Union Perak Branch
did not call to organize any programme for labour day celebration, unlike
last year we conducted a labour day celebration in Batu Gajah and as usual give away
may prizes to workers attending the labour day. The Perak Branch has consistently
conducted labour day to mark this occasion and to pay tribute to all the leaders, workers
who struggled to secure an 8hrs work, 8hrs rest and 8hrs recreation. Indeed, there was
a revolution in Chicago, workers had to fight against hired thugs, gangsters by company to
destroy workers rights and to stop the deplorable and unsafe working conditions,
Union leaders like August Spies, Parsons and 6 others were sentence to death for
conducting strikes, the year is 4th May 1886 in Chicago, all of them were hanged.
Their struggle is not in vain, thereafter in europe and in other parts of US many
workers stated to conduct strikes and demanded better wages and working conditions,
from small scale Union went form National Union and Federation of Unions. Today our
Union too is an Affiliate of an International Trade Union movement "ICEM' which is
based in Brussells, Belgium. Brussells is where the father of Socialism Karl Marx
lived in exile during the second world war.

However, we have simply forgotten their sacrifice and had departed from the 8hr work
conditions and have adopted 12hrs to even 16hrs work per day, workers have become
a machine, working day-in-day-out without a thought what is happening to their health,
OT is always in their mind, management has made our working class an instrument of production,
some workers don't even realise that they work 365 days a year, no rest, no leisure! We as workers
have lost our dignity as workers, there is no quality life...........

Then, What are WE?
We are Workers, Standing to Gather just like the Tree beside the river, holding together
Strong to preventing sand erosion,
We call upon all workers to Unite, In Solidarity, Hand-in-Hand,
so that we can demand a uniformity wage structure and a safe working conditions,
we want the Employees Social Security 'Socso' to provide 24hrs coverage, it should not be confined
to injury arising from commuting accident, as workers tend to run errands after their working
hours.

We cannot end this email just as yet, as Sis. Sarima the chairperson worksite of Comfort Rubber Gloves a round of applause,
be she was if fact enroute to Lumut to pay a visit at her brother's house, she was already in plying towards, but as soon as
she received a call from one of the workers that we are conducting a labour day programme for some workers she immediately
told her son to make a u-turn to the dewan in Simpang Halt, supprisingly, she even delivered a speech upon request without
hesitation. This should be set as an example. The person in the Black Tedung is Sis. Sarimah. The trun-out was good, some
hundered workers came from the company and some from nearby company. WE Solute Sis Sarima for her courage, determination
discipline and humbleness, wisdom.

Workers also cut a Labour Day Cake!!!!!!!!!!!!Syabass.ssssssssssss

That's all from
Langkah Jebat.
Long Live the Workers
Hidup Kesatuan!

Naib Presidennya, A. Balasubramaniam berkata, tuntutan pertama masih berkisar mengenai gaji minimum RM900 sebulan beserta pemberian elaun kos sara hidup (COLA).

Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abd.
